Approaching the famous pinnacle ridge of Liathach, Glen Torridon, Scotland. This is a spectacular hike through wild scenery that includes some difficult sections of scrambling. It was definitely one of my most memorable mountain days. Shortly after I took this, it started to snow, then hail, then the sun came out.

Perhaps my favourite view... Loch Leven and Kinlochleven from the Mamore estate landrover track way up in the hills. The small pointy hill on the left is Sgorr na Ciche - this being Gaelic for, basically, "Tit Mountain". When the Victorians, obsessed with cataloguing everything, came across this they recorded it as 'The Pap of Glencoe' - 'Pap' apparently being the only socially acceptable term they could come up with. Funnily enough, on more than one occasion I've heard visitors pronounce the word 'Mamore' as 'Mammary'. This is wrong, unless I've not been keeping abreast of changes in pronunciation.

Well hidden from the road through Glenfinnan, the mountain Streap (Gaelic for 'climbing') is one of Scotland's gems. Its main peak is a sharks-fin of steep rocky slopes but on the day I visited it in November the light made the minor peak of Streap Comlaidh the one that stood out all day.

Liathach (Gaelic for "The Grey One") is a mighty mountain in the heart of Glen Torridon in Wester Ross in northwest Scotland. It towers up 3000 feet directly from the road and looks like The Land That Time Forgot. This photo was taken in November after 3 days of rough and violent weather had left everywhere coated with early season snow.

The Aonach Eagach becomes quite a serious undertaking when it's wet. But this weather came in suddenly from nowhere and I had a very adrenaline-filled and wet couple of hours negotiating its rocky crest. If you look very closely in the center of this photo you can just make out two other people who endured the same fate.
